Riverview Gardens School District announced the appointment of Tanya Patton, Ed.D. as superintendent, effective July 1, 2024.
“I’m honored to have been selected to serve as superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year,” Patton stated. “I look forward to working collectively with scholars, staff, parents and community members to support the scholars of Riverview Gardens.”
Patton served as the assistant superintendent of Student, School & Community Support from 2020-2024. She was named an Apple for the Teacher awardee (2023) by the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority. She also received the Women in Leadership Award from the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (2022).
Prior to joining RGSD, Patton served as principal at Nelson Elementary School and Cassens Elementary School in the Edwardsville School District. She also served as an assistant principal and a middle school teacher in Edwardsville.
Prior to her appointment, the SAB underwent lengthy discussions regarding finding a successor for Pruitt-Adams. Patton underwent a rigorous interview with the Special Administrative Board on September 30. She emerged with unanimous support.
Prior to her time in Edwardsville School District, Patton gained experience as a teacher in the Peoria School District and a teaching assistant at Community School in Ladue. She is a member of the School Superintendent Association, the National Alliance of Black School Educators, the Missouri National Education Association, the Missouri Association of School Administrators and more.
Patton earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, an Educational Specialist degree and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Harris-Stowe State University.
