Da'Marion W receives Xander Award

For Da'Marion W., the transition from fourth to fifth grade was defined by finding his voice. The Lematers Elementary School student was recently named a Rosemary Zander Award recipient by Special School District (SSD) of St. Louis. The honor celebrates his academic persistence and personal growth.

Da'Marion’s growth extends beyond academics into his daily interactions. Once hesitant to participate, he now advocates for his needs and utilizes tools to succeed in the classroom. He has also emerged as a classroom leader.

"Determined, compassionate, and resilient," his nomination noted. "He not only overcomes challenges but uplifts others and leaves a lasting impact on his school.

Since 1988, the Rosemary Zander Award has recognized SSD students for excellence in academics, the arts, communications, and independent living. Recipients are selected by a panel of judges who review nominations from staff members who witness these transformations firsthand. LEARN MORE
