RGEF donates books to Lewis & Clark Elementary
On October 1, 2019 the Riverview Gardens Education Foundation helped bring Black children’s literature to Glasgow Elementary School by opening the Believe Lab. Since that day, it has been the mission of the RGEF has to continue to bring Black children’s literature to all of the elementary schools in the Riverview Gardens School District in some form.
Exactly two years later, the RGEF brought Black children’s literature to another RGSD school. On October 1, 2021, the RGEF presented each kindergarten through third-grade classroom at Lewis & Clark Elementary School a set of Black children’s literature books. The books are now a permanent part of each of the personal classroom libraries at the school and are available for scholars to enjoy during quiet time.
Literacy is such an important part of education. It is the Foundation’s mission to foster the love of reading. Children are more likely to read books that contain characters they can relate to, whether that be race, ethnicity, different abilities, hobbies, or animals, it is the Foundation's quest to provide such literature.
The RGEF hopes to provide all kindergarten through third-grade classrooms in Riverview Gardens School District a set of Black children’s literature books.
The Riverview Gardens Education Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Riverview Gardens School District, its teachers and scholars.
